STUDENT SAFE

Here you can find the basic information on the university or college you are attending. Each institution has contact details, addresses, and website details.

Most websites have a section on Student Safety, some also have links to local sites such as the local Police.

It is important to research as much as you can about the area that will be home - it may be significantly different from where you are now!

You can print off the contact details and leave them with your family as emergency details.

Room security is something that is often overlooked. As well as the risk of safety, figures released in August show that inadequate room security can be financially crippling too, with more than 390,000 students suffering a theft last year.

Mobile phones were the most likely items to be stolen with 20% of students saying their handset had gone missing.

Some 19% also lost their MP3 player and 16% found their television had been taken while they were out.

Digital cameras, computers, video and DVD players, household equipment and games consoles also prove popular with thieves.

Alarmingly, 47% admitted they did not have adequate locks on their front or back doors and 16% said the locks had not been changed after the previous tenants. Check with your university to make sure your accomodation is as secure as it can be, and consider Lifelock to add your own security.

If you have already attended one of the listed universities or colleges, we would love to hear from you. Imagine you met someone who is going off to your old uni in a couple of weeks - what would you tell them? Where should they avoid? Email us your guide here.
